Award Winning films from Cornwall Film Festival - Closing Film

Poor Things | Dir Yorgos Lanthimos | 2023 | United Kingdom / Ireland / United States | 2h 21 min | Drama / Comedy / Fantasy | CFF18

From festival favourite filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos (The Favourite, The Lobster) and actor/producer Emma Stone comes the incredible tale and fantastical evolution of Bella Baxter (Stone), a young woman brought back to life by the brilliant and unorthodox scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter (Willem Dafoe). Under Baxter’s protection, Bella is eager to learn. Hungry for the worldliness she is lacking, Bella runs off with Duncan Wedderburn (Mark Ruffalo), a slick and debauched lawyer, on a whirlwind adventure across the continents. Free from the prejudices of her times, Bella grows steadfast in her purpose to stand for equality and liberation.

'A film that gives pleasure in every fantastical frame' - Sight & Sound

Venice Film Festival 2023 | Winner: Golden Lion for Best Film

'Poor Things is an insanely enjoyable fairy tale' - Hollywood Reporter  'A coming-of-age story, monster movie and bawdy, foul-mouthed sex romp that the Greek alchemist (Lanthimos) has somehow forged into a masterpiece.' - Time Out
